The Haven Hospice Foundation held its annual ViVA! event at Valley View in Alachua, Florida. The event, themed ViVA! 2023: ViVA Las Vegas, raised funds to support Haven’s dementia program.

Valley View was transformed into a Las Vegas atmosphere as guests arrived in their bright rhinestone attire. Attendees sang with a Cher impersonator and tried their luck at a variety of casino games, including a roulette wheel. A caricature artist was also present to capture guests’ likeness at the festive event.

Master of ceremonies and Haven Foundation board member Bernie Fitzgerald introduced former long-time Haven employee Ina Boyd for a special message, in which she spoke about Haven’s dementia program. Boyd, who worked at Haven for more than 30 years, shared personal and professional experiences to illustrate the importance of education for dementia care.

Afterward, guests enjoyed an extensive buffet prepared by Blue Water Bay. Dinner was followed by dancing, live entertainment, gaming and prize drawings.

“ViVA! 2023 was a huge success. It gave us an opportunity to gather, celebrate with old and new friends, and enjoy good food,” said Portia Taylor, event co-chair and Haven supporter. “Most importantly, ViVA! allowed us to continue our commitment of supporting Haven’s mission, its caregivers, and the patients and families who receive care. We are already looking forward to ViVA! 2024!”

The Haven Hospice Foundation holds the ViVA! event annually to raise funds for hospice patients and families. This year’s proceeds will benefit Haven’s dementia care program, which is designed to provide specialized care for patients living with cognitive disorders. The program uses an individualized hospice care plan to bring dementia care to patients wherever they call home.
