Awards
Haven has won “Best Hospice” in the Gainesville Sun’s “Community’s Choice Award” (formerly “Best of the Best”) contest in 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2016. Winners are determined by the readers of the Gainesville Sun, the largest newspaper in Gainesville, who vote for the best businesses and services in the area.
The Greater Gainesville Chamber of Commerce named Haven large nonprofit of the year in its 2021 business awards. Finalists were chosen after a panel of impartial judges from throughout the community carefully reviewed and scored each application in the category. The nominees for the Large Nonprofit of the Year category were Catholic Charities, Community Hospice & Palliative Care and Haven Hospice, and the award was sponsored by Cox Business.
2018
- Haven won the Excellence in Program Innovation Award, which recognizes services and programs provided by a hospice organization that demonstrate the power of creativity and ingenuity to impact the practice and the community, for its Haven Legacy Project. The services provided by the Haven Legacy Project are impactful tools to help families in their bereavement journey.
- Haven and volunteer Elizabeth Lowe, PhD were selected for the Hospice Story Award, which is given to the person or organization that best captures his or her most meaningful hospice experience with an original creative work. Dr. Lowe worked with a young mother who was a hospice patient to write a story that explained her advanced illness to her 7-year-old son.
- The Excellence in Clinical Practice Award was given to Haven Chaplain Rev. Donna Carlile, M.Div., to recognize her as an advocate for patients and families, as a resource to multiple community organizations, and for promoting excellence in hospice and palliative care.
2022
- The Barbara Janosko Excellence in Leadership Award was awarded to Haven Patient Care Manager Jennifer Davis, whose work has promoted the advancement of excellence in hospice and palliative care through demonstration of exceptional service, creativity and leadership. Davis’ exceptional leadership through the pandemic was cited in her nomination, as well as her management of challenging patient cases and staffing hurdles.
2023
- Haven Hospice Director of Access Claudia Beureuse won the FHPCA’s Catalyst Award for consistently demonstrating leadership in forging the collaboration that makes hospice unique. Beureuse was selected for the award for being instrumental in a number of strategic initiatives, improving patient care and quality and executing change.
2024
- Haven Lead Social Worker Jennie Lyons was awarded the Barbara Janosko Excellence in Leadership Award for developing a program to empower every Haven social worker to become licensed as well as her leadership in company-wide initiatives including Haven’s Dementia Care Program committee, Camp Safe Haven (Haven’s grief camp for children and families), Haven’s internal We Honor Veterans committee, the Make a Difference Fund committee (which reviews employee-funded “wishes” for patients and families); and for taking the lead on Haven’s suicide training initiative.
- Haven Clinical Educator Sarah Murnahan was awarded the Catalyst Award for building an exceptional orientation and onboarding program and her collaboration on multiple company-wide projects to facilitate an exceptional workplace for employees.
- Haven Bereavement Coordinator Nooriel Nolan was awarded the Rising Leader Award, which recognizes an individual who has been working in hospice for less than five years and exhibits exemplary professional accomplishments and a commitment to hospice. Nolan was selected for quickly making a lasting impact in the bereavement department through the revival of grief support programs; securing community resources; and for consistently serving patients and families across the state.
2025
- Haven Director of Clinical Operations Kristal Goodwin was awarded the Barbara Janosko Excellence in Leadership Award for developing a culture of learning, accountability and commitment to quality; investing in the community; and collaboration with different departments to facilitate smooth transition of care.
- Haven’s Tri-County Hospice Care Center team in Chiefland, Florida, was awarded the Synergy Award—which recognizes a group of people that has consistently demonstrated the ideals of collaboration and teamwork in working toward a goal or mission—for their outstanding service in the wake of widespread hurricane destruction.
Haven Hospice won the Greater Gainesville Chamber of Commerce‘s Business Supporting Veterans Award at the 2025 Veteran’s Appreciation Luncheon. It is an honor to serve and recognize veteran patients in Gainesville and the surrounding area!
The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce named Haven the 2009 Alachua County Nonprofit Business of the Year. The selection criteria included Haven’s success in improving access to quality care and measuring its effectiveness in providing that care; adopting energy‐saving measures and other innovative ways of serving the community; planning for growth; serving as an industry leader, and demonstrating employee involvement in charitable fundraising and community events, among others.
The Florida Pacesetter Award from the national organization, Aging with Dignity, honored Haven in 2006 for taking a leading role in promoting advance directives and living wills in the communities we serve.
The Gilchrist County Chamber of Commerce unanimously named Haven the 2008 Civic Organization of the Year.
The Circle of Life Award® recognizes programs across the nation that demonstrate excellence and innovation in palliative and end-of-life care. In 2007, Haven was one of eight programs nationwide to earn the prestigious Circle of Life Award® Citation of Honor. In 2008, Haven was one of three organizations – and the only hospice – to receive the Circle of Life Award®, the nation’s highest honor in end-of-life and palliative care. The award recognizes Haven for excellence and innovation as well as expanding access to end-of-life and palliative care, especially for underserved populations. The awards are supported in part by the California Healthcare Foundation, based in Oakland, California. Major sponsors include the American Hospital Association, the American Association for Retired Persons, the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, the Catholic Health Association, the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and the National Hospice Foundation. The Center for Practical Bioethics is a Circle of Life® co-sponsor.
The Greater Chiefland Chamber of Commerce named Haven as the 2007 Business of the Year.
Haven earned a place on Jacksonville Magazine’s 2009 list of the Top 25 companies that Care – a salute to local businesses that put community at the forefront of their agendas.
